It’s been over eight years since Left 4 Dead 2 first released, and in that time, the game’s dedicated fanbase has kept its servers running non-stop. In all that time, however, one question has remained unanswered: what happened to the infected?
Theories abound, of course. Some believe that the infection was simply a natural disaster, while others believe that the government was behind it all. The truth, however, is probably more complicated than any of us could have imagined.
The Infection:
The infection in Left 4 Dead 2 is a mystery, but there are some clues that can be pieced together. The first is the fact that the infection seems to be spreading through water. This is evident in the fact that most of the infected are found near or in water sources, and that the infection seems to be spreading through the city via the sewers.
The second clue is the fact that the infection seems to be linked to animals. This is most clearly seen in the fact that the infected seem to retain some of their animalistic qualities, such as growling and hissing. It’s possible that the infection started with animals and then spread to humans, or that the infected are simply reverting back to their animal instincts.
The final clue is the fact that the infection seems to be linked to the city itself. This is most clearly seen in the fact that the infection only seems to be spreading in urban areas. It’s possible that the infection is airborne, or that it’s being spread through close contact with infected people or objects.
The truth is, we may never know exactly what happened to the infected in Left 4 Dead 2. But theories and speculation are half the fun, right?
